What happened?

Journal Entry: Tue Apr 15, 2008, 5:35 PM
The economy happened, apparently.

Well, unfortunately, life has once again reared its ugly head. Right after I got all excited about having some free time, and getting back to my art...

... My husband suddenly stops getting work. He's an on call computer technician, and generally had 5-8 calls a day. Without any warning at all, he dropped to 1 call a week- and his last two paychecks have BOUNCED. (And because irony is just too much, the bank, of course, charged us fees because his stupid company couldn't pay their checks.) He's been applying to jobs for months, but it appears his company is quite seriously about to go belly up. He's contacted his boss four times now- but going on three weeks now, nothing has changed, and he's not getting any good answers from his boss.

This has pretty much led to him job hunting, and me scrambling to get more work, more clients, and to actually earn enough so we can pay our bills and rent. And of course, like a genius, I paid estimated taxes and splurged on a new desk right before all this went down.

So yeah. :( I'm a little stressed, and my husband being around all day makes it hard to get much done. With the US economy tanking, I've already had two clients cancel on me, and... ugh. *insert mild panic here* My mother also has way more to say about all this than I really want to hear.

Well.

Mark (husband) has been applying for new jobs for months, as he wanted a change of scenery. SO it looks like this is forcing the issue. He is applying for a job at his old college, since they have a couple of openings. He worked there as a work study when he was going to school, so he knows a lot of guys in the department, and has a good friend who's a system admin. It'd mean us moving from Denver to a fairly small town, but I have hopes that I can keep the client base I've built if we have to move.

Cross your fingers for us. Sorry, again, for-- well, being me, I guess. Hope the economy woes aren't hitting everyone else so hard, and that life is good.

Not recently- I'm self employed as a web/graphic designer, which doesn't leave me much time for the more traditional art. :( I get a lot of joy out of watching others though, so thanks! :)

I REALLY miss painting in oil. I don't have any of mine up on DA, as the canvases are all back at my parent's place halfway across the US- I think painting is one of the more zen things you can do. Keep up the good work on your technique, it's showing. :)

Thank you, it takes so long to develop and figure out some techniques that actually work well in oil... its finally starting to pay off.
